The best love stories are often the most unexpected ones. Such was the case for Anna Domalewski and Kelly Marshall, who met after Anna’s 18th birthday.

Sydney became the backdrop to their growing relationship when the couple moved there after Anna’s graduation from university. “We had the best time in Sydney together – working hard and exploring the city. We made some great friends. We bought our first home together and loved living there,” Anna said.

However, before they moved back home to Brisbane in late 2016, Kelly had one more bit of business to take care of. A few days before Anna’s 30th birthday, he took her to dinner at Tetsuya’s Restaurant in the heart of the city for a lavish dinner and cocktails – and then nothing happened.“We caught a cab home and when I walked through the door, there were beautiful flowers on the coffee table. He bent down on one knee and popped the question,” Anna said.

The ceremony was held at Our Lady of Victories, Bowen Hills, a nod to Anna’s father and her Polish heritage. Finding the perfect venue for the reception was not difficult for the young couple: they only looked at two venues before settling on The Tote Room at Brisbane Racing Club, an ideal tribute to Kelly’s love of horse racing. With its dark wood, high ceilings, and generous space, it matched their vision of an area brimming with light contrasted by dark, moody florals.

“Our wedding style was timeless elegance, with soft and romantic blooms,” said Anna. “We did not have a separate wedding table because we wanted to be close to our friends and family and experience our wedding like one of our guests.”

Stunning floral arrangements of peonies and roses by Green and Bloom complemented the space with tones of white, soft pink and dark red, a dash of black in the foliage and berries. Suspended over the single, long wedding table was a large hanging floral arrangement strung with dazzling lights that laid an air of relaxed refinement over those below.

Personalised marble coasters and bonbonnieres by Inkify awaited guests at their seats, capturing the tone of timeless elegance.

Sitting among her friends and family at the wedding table, Anna was stunning in her elegant dress, designed by Anne Bertossi of Paddington Weddings. “I wanted something really simple and timeless,” said Anna. “The fabric was known as the ‘Pippa Silk’ and is the same fabric that Pippa Middleton had for her bridesmaid dress.” Designed by Boyce Jewellers, her ring was an emerald cut diamond flanked by ascher cut diamonds. Beside her, Kelly was a handsome groom in an outstanding navy suit, tailored by Germanicos. Guests were treated to cake by Gillian Bell, whose signature style fuses frosting with flowers and music by The White Tree, a local wedding band.

“It was the best day of our lives. We had so much fun,” said Anna. “Everything ran pretty smoothly. It went all too quickly.”

The couple spent their honeymoon in Italy and sailing in Croatia.
