Brisbane Portrait Photography 1850 – 1950
Sit. Pose. Snap: Brisbane Portrait Photography 1850 – 1950 reflects on the first 100 years of portrait photography taken in Brisbane.
Sit. Pose. Snap features Australia’s most extensive collections of portrait photography, uncovered and researched by Brisbane General Practitioner, Marcel Safier. From family portraits to commemorating milestones, achievements and new occupations, the photographs offer a glimpse into the personalities of the subjects, even though many of their identities remain unknown.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to take a trip back in time and experience what it felt like to visit Mathewson & Co., one of the leading studios of the time, through an immersive Victorian backdrop and a journalist’s account from the 1880’s.
