Aquis Park, home of the Gold Coast Turf Club and Event Centre, is raising the style stakes at Fashions on the Field with the introduction of a range of fresh new categories to the region’s pinnacle racewear showcase.

Punters will put their best fashion foot forward as they compete across categories including best beard, best socks, and best-dressed couple in the signature event, while the new section of ‘Gold Coast Style’ is a nod to the bold and flamboyant looks for which the region is renowned.

Bringing a twist to the competition while honouring racewear traditions, the category of ‘Gold Coast Style’ will be introduced alongside ‘Classic Racewear’, with a winner to be selected from among entrants in both male and female divisions.

The popular Fashions on the Field event will feature during Melbourne Cup Race Day on Tuesday 7 November.

Fashions on the Field will also be held on Chinese New Year Race Day on Saturday, 17 February, and at the formerly named Prime Ministers Cup on 5 May 2018.

High profile judges including Heather Maltman and Bella Frizza will commend entrants on Melbourne Cup Day who show flair and originality while adhering to racewear criteria, while 1029 Hot Tomato Derby Day will see Carla Tooma judging who takes out the style stakes.

Aquis Park marketing manager Anne Reynolds said the new ‘Gold Coast Style’ category was an opportunity for racegoers to experiment with their outfits, in contrast to the ‘Classic Racewear’ section.

“The Gold Coast is known for being bright, bold, and having fun with fashion. This new category reflects that Gold Coast spirit,” said Reynolds.

“And proving race day fashion is about more than just finding the perfect dress, men will be encouraged to join the showcase.

Winners for best socks and headwear will be crowned at 1029 Hot Tomato Derby Day and Melbourne Cup Day.

“Our refreshed Fashions on the Field offering is another reason for members and guests to dress up and show off their unique sense of style and join us for the Gold Coast’s most glamorous celebration of racing this spring,” she said.

There will be prizes on offer for entrants, including more than $5000 worth of Esteem MediSpa vouchers; and other prizes from the likes of QT Gold Coast, Moet & Chandon, Watermark Hotel & Spa Gold Coast, Canadian Club eight-year-old blended bottles for male categories and more.

The 2017 Gold Coast Spring Carnival program features a host of new race day experiences across nine weeks from September 23 to November 11.

1029 Hot Tomato Derby Day features the Moet Ice Beach Party in the Event Centre, while Melbourne Cup Race Day is expected to attract a record crowd of guests.
