Ristorante Fellini will take part in a worldwide solidarity initiative for the Italian city of Genoa and the Liguria territory, whose people have been greatly affected by the tragic Morandi Bridge collapse in August. The award-winning Gold Coast restaurant will join Italian restaurants worldwide in hosting Pasta Pesto Day during the annual Italian Cuisine Week in the World from 19 to 25 November to fundraise for the people of Genoa and Liguria.

Ristorante Fellini co-owner Carlo Percuoco said the initiative was a way of combining the solidarity gesture with the direct experience of a pesto pasta plate, the international icon of the Ligurian oenogastronomy. “Pasta Pesto Day aims to relaunch the Liguria territory and raise funds for the Municipality of Genoa in an effort to help the city recover from this catastrophe,” he said. “The Italian organisers have decided to feature pesto in this initiative because it is a symbol of Genoa and Liguria, and it has also been nominated for the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.”

To support the initiative, Ristorante Fellini is offering diners the opportunity to choose a dish of pasta with the iconic Genoese pesto sauce during the week of 19 to 25 November, with a portion of the proceeds to go towards supporting those who have been affected by the tragedy. For each dish of pesto pasta served, Ristorante Fellini will donate two Euros to the city of Genoa; one Euro on behalf of the client and one Euro from the restaurant.

Ristorante Fellini is among hundreds of restaurants in Italy, Australia and around the world who will be including pesto pasta dishes on their menus in support of people living in Genoa and Liguria territory. “We were devastated to learn about the Morandi Bridge collapsing and its impact on the people of Genoa and the Ligurian territory,” Carlo said. “I have driven over the bridge a number of times, so this tragedy was very close to home and we had no hesitation to join the global movement to raise funds for the city’s recovery. The Pasta Pesto Day provides an appropriate opportunity for the Fellini team to welcoming diners on the Gold Coast who want to contribute to this worthy cause. We know that many diners in the Gold Coast are willing to support the Italian community by enjoying delicious authentic Genoese pesto pasta.”
