The Luxury Collection Hotels & Resorts announced the reopening of The Athenee Hotel in Bangkok following an extensive renovation and transformation, now offering an impressive gateway into the inspiring history and culture of Bangkok.

Formerly known as Plaza Athenee, the newly restored Athenee Hotel stands on the grounds of the Kandhavas Palace. As a homage to its regal lineage, the hotel’s opulent redesign is a modern take on traditional Thai style with a distinctly European flair. The opening of Athenee Hotel continues The Luxury Collection’s commitment to celebrating the heritage of the world’s most iconic hotels through meticulous restoration projects that pay tribute to local indigenous charms and treasures.

Overseen by interior design firms, Vekhin Interior and Bangkok Dec-Con PLC, this multi-million dollar redesign incorporates many aspects of the Thai colonial style. The influence of Thai royal ceremonies can be seen in the Royal Club guest rooms and the Athenee suites have carefully selected colour palettes and artwork for the interiors.

In addition to the refurbishment of the common spaces and all 374 luxurious rooms, The Athenee Hotel includes a newly redesigned swimming pool. Guests will also have several food and beverage options to enjoy, from the popular Smooth Curry restaurant to The Glaz bar, whose timeless neo-colonial décor celebrates the hotel’s royal roots.

“The Athenee Hotel is a complete metamorphosis out of its previous version, while retaining all the elements that made it the most loved hotel in Thai society. We are excited to partner with Marriott International, who will manage the hotel under the prestigious Luxury Collection brand,” said Nishant Grover, Chief Operating Officer of Asset World Corporation.

“Meticulous planning and uncanny inspiration has gone into every stage of this remarkable hardware transformation which the design world has justly bestowed its Best Hotel Interior Thailand seal of approval,” said Rajeev Menon, Chief Operating Officer Asia Pacific excluding Greater China, Marriott International Inc.

“And moreover, the software, our personalised services and hospitality, have been recalibrated accordingly. Indeed, no other hotel in Bangkok now delivers such eloquent expressions of all the very best of the Thai experience.”
