The team behind Mermaid Beach’s newest apartment development Mahala has revealed the vision behind creating the ultimate beachside apartment. Award-winning Cottee Parker Architects, say lifestyle-led design is giving projects like Mahala Mermaid Beach the edge in an increasingly competitive coastal apartment market.

Cottee Parker’s Chris Thomson, says buyers are looking for an apartment that matches their lifestyle and personality, with floorplans, finishes and facilities playing an important role in decision making. “There are plenty of apartment projects labelled as ‘luxury,’ but it’s important to remember luxury means something different to everyone, so offering a variety of floorplans catering to different needs is the first step in the right direction,” he said.

“Our vision was to create a building that has striking visual appeal as well as a connection, through good design, to the way people live their lives,” Chris said. “Some will be purchasing in Mahala to downsize from a family home, while others will be looking for a holiday apartment.”

Chris says the location and style of the apartments had influenced the design of shared facilities in Mahala. “We imagined Mahala’s exclusive resident facilities as an extension of the apartments. In true collaboration between developer and designer, we have tried to include amenities you would expect to find as part of a private beach home, to make the transition for downsizers easier,” he said. “Surfboard storage, a dog wash area and a secure room for the delivery of goods ordered online and a rooftop solar farm, are just a few of the features that make Mahala unique as an apartment development.

“It’s this rare combination of genuinely designing in all the extras that sets Mahala apart from the crowd.”
