There will always be the health and fitness fads that take our Instagram feeds by storm, but functional fitness is one that won’t lose its momentum. Pilates is one form of functional fitness designed to increase physical strength, mobility, and improve posture, but it is often associated with clinical physiotherapy style classes designed for injury rehabilitation. This is the opposite vibe of what Claire Shandley has created with her luxe Pilates studio Noosa Flow located in the heart of Noosaville.

Just six weeks since opening, Claire has attracted a loyal, word of mouth following that has grown organically from Noosa locals and holiday makers alike looking for a fitness fix that’s fun, effective, and sustainable.

After moving to London to peruse a fast-paced career in sales and marketing of luxury goods, Claire became hooked on Pilates in the quest to find balance from the frantic lifestyle she was leading.

“My body was begging me to take a break from the long hours and stressful deadlines, so I decided something had to change. I signed up for regular classes at my local Pilates studio and almost immediately my energy spiked and I felt a clarity about what I really wanted from life. I was reconnecting with myself,” says Claire.

Soon after, Claire quit her job to study every course she could find on Pilates, yoga, nutrition, and coaching to chase her newfound passion for helping others optimise their health and wellbeing through movement and nutrition.

“Since learning to put myself first, life has unfolded in the most beautiful and natural of ways. I left London for New York where I met and fell in love with my husband. I travelled the world empowering women with exercise and further honing my skills and knowledge.

And now I find myself back in Australia in Noosa having begun the biggest adventure of all with the birth of my little boy Jack, the light of my life, and opening my dream studio Noosa Flow.”

Claire’s studio is divided into two spaces, one for the reformer classes and one for the mat classes, which are separated by the reception area that has skincare goodies, candles, and active wear available to buy. The space is airy and bright fitted with windows looking out onto the Noosa River that create a blissful atmosphere capturing the golden hues of the morning and afternoon sunlight.

Claire’s intimate Pilates classes cater for a broad range of fitness levels offering two types of reformer classes, one focusing on strength and the other cardio, in addition to mat sessions, and two devoted entirely to new mums and mums to be. Private classes are available on request for those wanting a more one-on-one personalised experience. Kat Harding, otherwise known in insta-land as Yoga Kiss, is the guest yoga instructor who teaches Vinyassa and Yin at the studio.
