The Gold Coast will host hundreds of international athletes from more than 25 countries as the top skydivers in the world convene at the Sports Super Centre at Runaway Bay for the 2018 World Parachuting Championships (WPC) from Saturday 6 to Saturday 13 October.

Hosted by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF), the event will provide a free international sporting spectacle for the whole family to enjoy with a total of 10 skydiving disciplines judged throughout the eight-day event. The World Parachuting Championships will fill the Gold Coast sky with colour as the best skydivers glide and swoop before floating to the ground below.

All are invited to join in the excitement and anticipation as elite athletes from all over the world compete at great heights with their daring acrobatics skills streaming live on big screens in the spectator area for all to enjoy. The world-class spectacle is held every two years, with a different city in the world elected each time to host the event. Australia last hosted the Championships in 1999, with previous events also held in the skies above Chicago, the Czech Republic and Dubai in recent years.

To officially commence the 2018 World Parachuting Championships, the opening ceremony will be held on Saturday 6 October on the Surfers Paradise foreshore and everyone from families to sport enthusiasts are invited to join in the fun.

The event will feature displays of all forms of competitive skydiving including Formation Skydiving, Vertical Formation Skydiving, Canopy Formation, Canopy Piloting, Artistic Events, Classic Accuracy Events and Speed Skydiving – where skydivers will reach speeds above 500 kilometres per hour.
