The love story of Peta and Mike found its introduction 18 years ago on a Friday night at Port Office Hotel in Brisbane. Peta was out with a friend when Mike came over to say hello. Drinks were shared, similar interests were revealed and sparks began to form between the two strangers. “I guess you could say that our relationship took off from there,” said Peta. Peta, a fashion stylist and Mike, a property developer were leading busy lives at the time and it wasn’t until three years later that they decided to move into Mike’s apartment together, where they would live for the next ten years. Mike and Peta take every chance to embrace each other’s interests. As a diehard fan of snow skiing, Mike travels to North America or Europe every year, so Peta learned to ski for the first time at the age of 40 so she could join him. “Fortunately, I can now keep up with him,” she said.

While Mike and Peta shared occasional talks of the ‘M’ word, they were simply happy as long as they were together in life. In August last year while the couple was holidaying in Vietnam, Mike spontaneously proposed over a candlelight dinner amongst the balmy, tropical palms. Both Brisbane born, Mike and Peta decided on an intimate ‘micro’ wedding so they could celebrate with their nearest and dearest family members, as opposed to having an overflowing guest list. “As it happens our friends have been very supportive, wholeheartedly embracing our decision,” she said. The union took place on 6 April, Peta’s late father’s birthday, at the Brisbane Registry Office on Ann Street. “We decided on the date to honour his memory. I’m sure he was watching from up there somewhere with a Scotch in hand,” she said. Mike and Peta also exchanged Peta’s father’s wedding band and Mike’s mother’s wedding ring as another way to honour them.

The ceremony was followed by a private luncheon at Il Centro, one of their favourite restaurants where they indulged in dishes like duck risotto and crab lasagne. “The food was superb and the champagne flowed all afternoon,” she said. Peta’s gown was a beautiful cream Solace jumpsuit from Samantha Ogilvie and the wedding cake was a classic three-tier design from Deliberately Delicious. The flowers were from Daisy’s Florist and special moments were captured by Brisbane based photographer Junior Gomes. The honeymoon is set to be in America where the happy couple will no doubt embark on yet another adventurous ski trip.
