We chatted with William Liu, owner of Sono Group, for our summer edition.

Favourite international holiday destination, and why?
Japan. I love to visit the hot spring hotels and order seasonal Japanese food which is served in your private room. It is a holiday for me to stay in. We try to achieve that private dining room experience in our restaurants.

Ultimate Australian escape, and why?
Coffin Bay, South Australia. I love oysters, so a visit to a South Australian oyster farm is perfect for me.

Which do you prefer – country or city living, and why?
When I retire, the country. I’ve been in the city my entire life, which is necessary to realise my business dreams.

Favourite room in your home, and why?
My garage – I love cars.

What has been your proudest moment building your restaurant empire?
When I meet someone and they ask what I do, I say I’m a restaurateur.

When they ask which restaurant and find out it’s Sono, so many people are very excited and say that’s their favourite restaurant. That makes me feel very proud.

Sono is opening in a new location. What can diners expect from the new Sono?
Another benchmark in dining. A restaurant that keeps the traditional feel people love from Sono, with modern influences to bring the dining experience to another level.
