The Gold Coast will play host to a historic Australian-first when the World Mixed Team Championships of Badminton – the prestigious Total BWF Sudirman Cup – hits the newly launched Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre from May 21-28, 2017. The 2017 TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup marks the first time the BWF has selected a non-European or Asian destination to host the globally-celebrated event since its founding in 1989.
Badminton powerhouses including China, Korea, Malaysia, India, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and Indonesia will descend on the Gold Coast for the tournament, with more than 1,500 participants from over 160 countries set to enjoy the natural beauty of the region. With a home-turf advantage, and Rio Olympics experience under their belt, Australia’s best badminton talent are looking forward to playing on a world stage on the Gold Coast in 2017.
