What was the inspiration behind the project for which you won a Regional Commendation from the Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Architecture awards program?
This was a major renovation of an existing house. The inspiration was to transform the very conservative, inward-looking existing building into a contemporary, transparent, outward-looking holiday house which had to capitalise on a sensational outlook over Noosa Main Beach and Laguna Bay. Which do you prefer – country or city living and why?
I love visiting cities but would prefer to live in the country. I currently live in the Noosa hinterland — I was born in country NSW and was a jackaroo for a year after leaving school prior to studying architecture, so I suppose it’s in my DNA.

Favourite room in your house and why?
Our main verandah/outdoor room. It’s a place where you can closely connect with the landscape, fauna and climate.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be, and what would you serve?
Andrea Palladio, a 16th Century Italian architect. I’d serve Kangaroo sausages, pavlova and beer.

Ultimate Australian escape and why?
Karijini National Park Western Australia. It’s the perfect place to find solitude and a unique Australian landscape.

Favourite international holiday destination, and why?
Italy, for the Italian culture, design and architecture.

A weekend in spring is best spent…
Visiting Tasmanian vineyards tasting Pinot Noir.
