After three years of careful planning, Brisbane interior designer Renee Watson will finally see her dream for a new renovation and design show come to life with the inaugural Reno Home Show at Brisbane Showgrounds from 20-21 July.
More than 80 of the country’s best designers, architects, stylists, home builders, trades and product suppliers will converge in Brisbane for the boutique event aimed at home renovators. Whether renovating their kitchens or bathrooms, updating their fixtures and fittings, undergoing a complete renovation or simply looking for inspiration, the Reno Home Show has something for everyone.
Renee hopes the event will help people from all walks of life on their renovation journey. “We would love them to connect with interior designers, architects, builders and all the trade professionals that can provide advice and discover unique options for their homes to save time and money,” she says. “It’s all about creating a community atmosphere in a beautifully rustic space where stallholders can get to know one another and visitors can talk face-to-face with designers and trades to create the home of their dreams and improve their liveability.”
Renee originally started studying interior design after the birth of her daughter. “I wanted to do something for myself. I love saying yes to new adventures so I decided to study interior design. It was my happy place for two nights every week for two years,” she says. As for what she loves about home interiors and renovating? “I love experimenting with interiors, all the textures, colours and seeing it evolve. I love the challenge of working out the best flow for a space. And I love the home journey story – the things that are collected and the memories they create,” she says.
Renee’s top five tips for home renovators looking to add value to their homes are to create lots of street appeal, seamless indoor/outdoor spaces, kitchens that are both stylish and functional, timeless bathrooms and plenty of practical storage. “It’s all too easy to spend a lot of money on renovating so it’s important to put your hard-earned savings into rooms and spaces that will serve you now and into the future,” Renee says.
