Performed as part of this year’s Brisbane Festival, Dancenorth Australia‘s RED illustrates the universal challenge of biodiversity and survival for genetic mutations, in this case the gene that gave rise to red hair in humans, through a large inflatable structure from which air is slowly emptying, ultimately sealing the dancers trapped inside. Red hair, like many other mutations, is endangered, and RED symbolises a world where biodiversity is slowly being erased.
