Renowned Australian designer Adam Cornish is launching his newest design range The Seam Collection for Tait. The collection forms a family of seating and tables designed for a variety of applications including a dining chair, a bar stool and a cafe table. The range is suitable for indoor and outdoor use, as well as commercial and residential applications including hospitality and alfresco.
The Seam Collection is Cornish’s first collection for Tait, an outdoor furniture brand known for its wire chair designs and Cornish’s use of sheet metal breaks new ground for the contemporary furniture company. Through a simple series of cuts and folds, Seam is materialised with elegant and precise form. Cornish likens the design process to the tailoring of fabric into a form fitting garment.
“Although fabric and sheet metal seem worlds apart, the tailoring process used to construct shapes is surprisingly similar,” says Cornish. Cornish offers a fresh approach to conventional design and construction by contrasting clean lines, fluid contours and refined design detail with an inherently robust construction and hard-wearing tactility. Likewise, the pressed and moulded contours of the chairs offer increased levels of comfort and functionality, and their restrained, modernist aesthetic enables them to blend harmoniously into any space.
The collection is characterised by a rich, earthy colour palette referencing the Australian coastlines, terrains and flora. The hues include Deep Ocean, Ochre and Pale Eucalypt. The furniture is finished in a UV stable, textured powder coat while the furniture legs are available in either powder coated stainless steel or a selection of finished timbers.
Cornish is renowned for his impressive portfolio encompassing furniture, homewares and installations. He works from an independent, multidisciplinary design studio in Melbourne, though his growing international recognition means that his work has been exhibited in Milan, New York and Chicago. He draws inspiration from the natural world, especially the ways in which organisms evolve and adapt to their surroundings, and is committed to producing designs which are honest, reliable, and add value to the of their owners.
