The Inaugural Australian Watercolour Muster 2019 is a national event supported by Watercolour Societies nationally and culminating over five days with gala events in Brisbane from November 7 to 9.

The Muster showcases Australian watercolour and artists who have created works with their impression of the theme, Paint your Backyard. Organiser Wyn Vogel said, “This can be loosely interpreted as any subject matter you feel touches you emotionally from your country of origin.” The images will hang together in a ‘Digital On-line Exhibition Gallery’ from 15 October until our Gala Cocktail Party and Auction which will be held at Emporium Hotel Southbank on 9 November 2019. These works will then go on sale for two weeks at the price nominated by the artist,” she said. Preceding the auction will be a two-day free mini tradeshow at the Coro hotel at Milton.

President of the Watercolour Society of Queensland Jenny Loveday said, “Our goal is to create a broader platform for Australian artists to engage with the international arts community and specifically, for the watercolour community, to take their work into new and creative fields of endeavour, creating opportunities to share studios and exhibit where possible in this world.”

Australian artists selected to hang in the Digital Online Exhibition Gallery during the Australian Watercolour Muster are now nominated to have their artwork showcased internationally as part of a global meet up of more than 80 countries at FabrianoInAcquarello – Italy May 2020. The 30s and Under Emerging Artists finalist will be sponsored by the Watercolour Society of Queensland to fly and stay in Fabriano during FabrianoInAcquarello – 2020. Thirty Australian artist works will be showcased and represent Australia in FabrianoInAcquarello – Italy 2020.

Curators of the Australian Watercolour Muster include Vice President of The Australian Watercolour Institute Neil Taylor, Western Australian Watercolour Society’s Jude Scott, and Fish Lane Studios Creative Director Wyn Vogel.
