Surry Hills export Devon Cafe opened in Westfield Garden City earlier this month, bringing with it a menu filled to the brim with a variety of contemporary cuisines. Hungry to taste the latest fare, we insisted on deep diving into the dinner menu.

Starting with the simple pleasures, we munched the Lightly Spiced Fried Calamari and dipped the Whipped Pollack Roe with Chargrilled Sourdough, served decadently with a pool of olive oil to be soaked up by the airy loaf. Undecided on what to order next, we called upon the expert eyes of Waiter David and Manager Michaela, both attentive to aid in the decision. And so the ‘biggie’ dishes arrived.

Off the hock with the DIY Crispy Pork Bao, we put our design skills to the test, crafting the perfect buns with hoison, cucumber, coriander and lettuce to do the crisp, juicy pork leg justice. The Wagyu Tenderloin, cooked to medium rare perfection, melted in the mouth, singing in a fork-full of sauteed mushrooms and cep puree. To fill any space left, we inhaled the Mentaiko Pasta – fresh tagliarini dressed with blue swimmer crab, king prawns, flying fish roe and swimming in a mantaiko cream sauce. Indulgent and rich, no strand of pasta was left on the plate, evidence of the dish’s devoted reception. All in agreeance, there could be no favourites in a battle of such heavenly fare.

The perfect finish was Devon’s signature Soft Serve Ice Cream, served with a cone protruding from the bubble tea flavoured creamy folds. Complete with tapioca pearls and cheese foam, it is a unique dessert sure to be loved by bubble tea-drinkers all over.

In a food pavilion crowded with restaurants, Devon stands out from the crowd, opting to unite multiple cuisines seamlessly under the one roof.

Devon Cafe is located at Westfield Garden City, 2049 Logan Road in Upper Mount Gravatt, and is open Sunday to Tuesday 8am to 4pm, and Wednesday to Saturday 8am to 10pm.
