To celebrate the fifth birthday of Gold Coast Open House in 2019, an annual event which will take place across the Gold Coast on Saturday 19 October, organisers conducted their first art competition. The winning artwork was submitted by Burleigh Heads-based graphic designer and visual artist, Zoe Lewis. Her artwork will be featured on the Gold Coast Open House tote bags this year.
The artwork titled Magic Mountain Miami Beach House – Another One Bites the Dust is part of a series Zoe created to capture the essence of the traditional Gold Coast beach house. The judging panel comprised of Gold Coast artists, architects, Open House committee members, academics, and the representatives from Minter Ellison Gold Coast. Minter Ellison Gold Coast is also the sponsor for the competition.
The judges complimented Zoe’s artwork and commented on how well it captured the relationship between built environment of the Gold Coast’s iconic headlands and the coastal landscape. “It inspires commentary on the changing character of the Gold Coast as older beach houses make way for higher density living,” they said.
As well as being the first Gold Coast artist to have their work printed on the tote bags, Zoe won a prize package valued at $1,000 thanks to the competition sponsor, Minter Ellison Gold Coast. This year, Gold Coast Open House opens the doors to over 50 of the Gold Coast’s interesting and architecturally significant buildings and locations, inviting the public to take a behind-the-scenes look at places they may have only seen from the street. This year’s program also includes guided walking tours, as well as tours through a collection of inspiring architect-designed private residences.
Those who are interested in taking a peek inside these stunning private homes will need to register for the event. Registrations will be open for the public on Friday, 6 September at 9am. The full program and tours will be announced after the official launch of this year’s Gold Coast Open House on Tuesday 3 September.
