Tasmanian Royal Lamb has been acknowledged as the Best Lamb in Australia with a win in the RNA prestigious best branded lamb competition as part of the RNA’s Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show (RQFWS). Tasmanian Royal Lamb took out first in the 20 kilogram category and third in the 24 kilogram category, beating a high class field of record entries, with the highest score achieving the coveted crown of Grand Champion Branded Lamb.
Chief Judge Elaine Miller said the standard of entries for the branded lamb competition highlighted industry trends towards a more uniform, tender and flavoursome lamb product. “The Tasmanian Royal Lamb exhibited by Melrose Meats displays a beautiful balance between flavour, tenderness and juiciness of the meat,” she said. Kerry Melrose of Melrose Meats added”It’s a brilliant example of flavoursome lamb for consumers who want to experience the best clean natural flavours that lamb has to offer,” he said. “This consistency of product quality is what the lamb industry has been striving for over the past decade and we are proud to have consistently scored the highest to achieve Grand Champion crown for the past three out of six years.”
It was noted that as Grand Champion the Tasmanian Royal Lamb winning lamb brand nudged out other entries due to its above average flavour profile credited to the rich pastures, clean water and temperate climate of Tasmania. “Australians quintessentially love their Lamb so it’s great that they can now be reassured to know what the best of the best branded Lamb is,” Melrose continues. “We have such quality farmers and producers in Tasmania who deserve to be rewarded and recognised for their excellence. Competition winners earn the right to display their gold, silver or bronze medal on product packaging, ensuring consumers know they are buying the best of the best in that product range.”
