The Tweed Coast’s PLB Group has announced the sale of its Kingscliff restaurant, Taverna, as part of a business consolidation strategy prompted by COVID-19. The sale marks the end of a successful journey for the hospitality group, who turned the beachside establishment into a renowned food destination.

Claiming the coveted number one position on Trip Advisor and ranked in the top 100 in the Sydney Morning Heralds 2017 Hot Food List from across the globe, the restaurant became a success. The restaurant has been sold to the existing managers and will continue to operate as usual.

The PLB Group currently owns some Northern New South Wales famous dining institutions such as Osteria Café, Baked at Ancora, Pastry Bread Espresso and more. General Manager Mark Wilson explains that while the Greek inspired restaurant was a successful project, it was never a long-term strategy for the group. The decision to sell was made final once the pandemic began to affect the hospitality industry.

“We’ve been working hard to reposition our organisation to ensure it’s well-placed both during and after any COVID-relation downturn. The thought of bringing our key players from across all five restaurant venues back into a more nimble and streamlined organisation was an exciting prospect,” he said.

The group will now focus on their current venues including the green space at Casuarina, which houses Osteria Café, Osteria weddings, Lolita’s Mexican Cantina, The Hub shared office space and The Parlour bridal suite. Mark explains the decision to consolidate back to their core businesses will also position the team to take advantage of future possibilities on the other side of the pandemic where he is optimistic about the potential for growth following the crisis.

“It’s safe to say there will be some compelling opportunities on the other side of the downturn … Although we’ve had to make some tough decisions, I have not felt as excited about the outlook as I do right now,” he said.
