Boutique Brisbane barbershop The Electric Chair (TEC) proves industry heavy weights no longer dominate the age old tradition of barbering, opening its third location in Morningside on Saturday 22 September.
Already having two stores in Brisbane’s CBD and Everton Park, the modern barbershop chain is owned and founded by 25-year-old Adrian Messina who insists coiffed cuts, sleek styles and the rise of male grooming is now a young man’s game. Adrian, who is also the Head Barber, says his youthful perspective on a historical craft has enabled him to quickly establish himself as one of Brisbane’s best barbers. “Male grooming has gotten this fresh wave of popularity because young guys like me are coming in and making grooming cool for everyone,” said Adrian.
TEC boasts up to two hour wait times for its walk-in only style of service, something Adrian puts up to his amazing qualified staff and premium experience. “I had to open this Morningside location because we have 13 barbers and two locations and it still wasn’t enough… we are struggling with having too many customers and too long wait times,” said Adrian. “We make visiting The Electric Chair a fully immersive experience from décor, to the music, our services and industry standard products, our barbers and merchandise and this has built an insanely loyal customer base.”
Adrian further adds that the Australian barbering industry has turned into something more than just haircuts, with a strong pop-culture being grown right here in Brisbane. “There’s this exciting scene that comes with apparel, merchandise, hair product ranges, soaps, fragrances, accessories… men looking after their looks isn’t girly, it’s distinctly masculine. Nowadays people ride or die with their barbers, so it’s epic to see men really coming into their own in the beauty and grooming industry in such a unique way.”
To celebrate the opening of their new store The Electric Chair will be offering 50 per cent of all services, free drinks, free goodie bags, free The Electric Chair Barbershop merchandise and prize give-aways on Saturday 29 September.
