W Brisbane‘s newest beverage and food experience has officially opened in the iconic riverside hotel.

The Lex is named after the original flagship W Hotel on Lexington Avenue in New York and promises the same trendy and vibrant atmosphere. While drawing influences from W’s origins, The Lex includes sights and tastes that are authentically Brisbane. The terrace style dining experience seamlessly blends a chic interior with an outdoor area that highlights Brisbane’s beautiful Southbank precinct. Designer, Nic Graham, also incorporates local charm by nodding to the classic Queenslander through using modern paneled walls.

The menu, curated by Chef De Cuisine Pawel Klodowski, will change seasonally with the authentic South East Queensland produce utilised. The restaurant aims to embrace a healthy and sustainable farm-to-table experience that supports the local economy and individual farmers, grocers and communities.

The food included a beautifully balanced Housemade Focaccia that had a hint of sweetness between the savoury flavours. A creamy Burrata was another standout, especially on the tangy bed of roasted and marinated baby beets. The Tasmanian Ocean Trout was fresh and light with a hint of sea salt and an absence of any ‘fishy’ taste. Another delightful surprise was the Traditional Mac & Cheese that transformed a classic meal into a sophisticated, flavourful side dish. The final course included a Floral Pavlova that was bursting with berry flavours and a light coconut meringue shell.

Another signature of the new restaurant is its old-school champagne cocktail cart tended by the in-house mixologist. The service will be available for group bookings and features The Lex Spritz cocktail. The new beverage includes Queensland gin, kaffir leaf syrup, and a choice of champagne. Another locally inspired cocktail is the Bridge 40 that draws inspiration from the Brisbane Story Bridge built in 1840. This cocktail includes Brisbane Gin, The Lex Housemade Limoncello, and again a choice of champagne. The drinks were smooth and refreshing, with various flavour notes that were enjoyable long past the final sip.

With many more plates and beverages to explore, The Lex is definitely a dining spot that is worth revisiting. The expansive view makes it an ideal location to bask in the exceptional tastes and experiences available. Alongside the seasonal menu, the extensive beverage list will change bi-annually, giving diners a new experience every few months. The Lex delivers on its promise of excellent food and drink, with an even better view to enjoy them with.
