The Wabbit Saison Carrot Beer and the Beauy and Blue Spiced Pumpkin Ale will be unveiled at this year’s Scenic Rim Eat Local Week starting on Saturday 29 June
Scenic Rim carrot farmers from Kalfresh Vegetables have launched Wabbit Saison Carrot Beer. The craft beer collaboration with 4 Hearts Brewing marks a return of the bucolic beer; developed to reduce food waste by using imperfect carrots. Kalfresh Vegetables CEO Richard Gorman said the team values a waste-free harvest. “Each year we focus on how we can reduce food waste by selling 100 per cent of the carrots we harvest, even the wonky, split and marked ones.”
Head brewer Kenneth Friend has adapted 4 Hearts original recipe to incorporate a carrot mash. He said it results in an earthy, dry Belgian-style saison with a subtle carrot undertone. It is 25 per cent carrot. “The beer has a beautiful orange colour,” said Friend. “We have used 60 kilograms of carrots in this batch.”
Scenic Rim Brewery are welcoming Eat Local Week with its Beauy and Blue Spiced Pumpkin Ale, a collaboration with Stuart Oppermann from Oppy’s Fruit and Vege shop in Boonah. With crafted Beaudesert blue pumpkins and a hint of spice, the subtle pumpkin flavour is rounded out with nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon notes. Owner and head brewer Mike Webster developed the recipe to explore more of the produce in the Scenic Rim. “After last year’s successful milk stout collaboration, we sought to find another passionate farmer to explore new flavours with.” Webster said.
Wabbit Saison Carrot Beer and Beauy and Blue Spiced Pumpkin Ale will be available to try and buy on Saturday 6 July at the Winter Harvest Festival during Scenic Rim Eat Local Week.
