The prestigious Good Design Award was presented to Cube + Circle recently at the 61st annual Good Design Award ceremony. The companies Spin Stool succeeded in the category of Furniture and Lighting Design, lauded by the jury as clever and elegant. It has also been described as a beautiful, functional and understated piece of furniture. This design will result in serious commercial success in private and commercial sectors. A unique design in the high end segment of foot stools that is easy to use, transport and store.

The Spin Stool is famous for being too complex to be produced. The Spin’s designer Staffan Holm, took this as a challenge, innovating the stool that many thought was impossible to manufacture into a commercially viable product. In the process, he proved that timber can be bent in three dimensions. As a multi-use product, it is often used as a side table, but the Good Design Award Judges note that “the X factor is seeing the stools stacked, creating a beautiful spiral pattern”.

Cube + Circle are the exclusive distributor of Swedese products in Australia. Cube + Circle has a strong focus on sustainability in their collection, which is another key feature that impressed the judges at the Good Design Award. “The jury was impressed with the use of certified sustainable veneer and water based glues, adding to the appeal from a sustainable design perspective” said the company. The spin remains the ultimate environmentally friendly and sustainable product, using minimal resources in both production and transport. It is virtually hand made, with no masks or filters required during its manufacture.

The Good Design Award is the oldest and most prestigious international design award across the globe. It has a strong focus on excellence in design and innovation, and is recognised by the World Design Organisation and Australia’s peak international design endorsement program.
