The opening night of The Poison of Polygamy was a success, with audiences left in awe and thought at the provoking play. Exploring themes of kinship, survival, greed, love and fidelity, The Poison of Polygamy presents a page-to-stage adaptation of Wong Shee Ping’s trailblazing novel through a contemporary lens with a dynamic collective of artists and creatives. Co-produced by La Boite and Sydney Theatre Company, the play puts a human face on the issue of migration, telling the story of a man from southern China who tries his luck on the Victorian goldfields, the wife he leaves behind, the choices he makes, the promises he breaks and the consequences they reap.
