Home of the Arts (HOTA) will host an intimate, wild and amusing exploration of Bowie’s life through his numerous chart topping hits from New York to Berlin in internationally acclaimed show Starman by Dutch/German entertainer Sven Ratzke. An
A starburst of cabaret combined with a rock show experience, guests are invited to delve into the hyper-real world of seventies glam-rock where Ratzke inhabits Bowie’s multiple personas and alter ego’s. Is he The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust or The Picasso of Pop? You can never know for sure, but he is a forever changing curious and androgynous enigma.
Ratzke will be accompanied on stage by his famed three-piece band featuring German pianist and composer Christian Pabst, German born and Netherlands based bass player Florian Friedrich and Dutch “Master of Jazz Drums” Haye Jellema. The ensemble effortlessly transitions from the raw and emotional Bowie ballads to his the bold and electric rock classics. “Ratzke turns on a dime from glam spectacle to kooky charm, savvy teasing to captivating soulfulness. And his tall tales suggest fever dreams of Genet, Warhol and vintage Hollywood. It’s a trip,” says Scottish newspaper The Scotsman.
Spending 48 weeks of the year touring the world, Sven Ratzke is a unique and seasoned performer. From sold out shows at Lincoln Center in New York to the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, to the famous Berliner Ensemble in Berlin, Ratzke’s combines high culture with elements of cabaret and vaudeville. “I’m so excited to finally bring my show to Gold Coast after such a successful Brisbane season last year,” Ratzke says of performing Starman. “I’ve heard it’s the most exciting city in Australia: wild, sexy, flamboyant and full to the brim of art and culture. So, Gold Coast and Starman, will be a match made in heaven.”
