The recently opened Brisbane brewery, BrewDog, donated $35,000 from their first week of sales, and will facilitate ongoing fundraising for GIVIT, to an online charity for the Queensland Bushfires Appeal.
GIVIT is the Queensland Government’s official disaster donation charity partner. Since severe bushfires began in September 2019, GIVIT has coordinated more than 12,000 vital donations of items to bushfire-affected communities. The Scottish craft beer trailblazers officially launched their Brisbane taproom and restaurant in November, before their new brewery kicks off local production in January 2020. Showcasing and learning from Australian independent breweries is a focus, yet the brewery from east Scotland is committed to playing an active role in the Brisbane community, despite just landing in Australia.
BrewDog Australia Operations Manager, Calvin McDonald, said the brewery are grateful to their new Brisbane community for helping raise $35,000 for GIVIT’s bushfire relief efforts. “Our hearts break for the communities affected by the devastating bushfires that continue to burn throughout the country. The impact on human and animal life is incomprehensible. We knew that our first day of operation was going to be busy, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to raise as many funds as possible,” Mr McDonald said.
GIVIT Manager, Scott Barrett, said the national online charity is thankful for the support from the Australian public, as well as all businesses across the country. “We’re incredibly heartened by the generosity of BrewDog, who are just one of many businesses who have already donated to GIVIT or are fundraising for our national Bushfire Appeals. 100 per-cent of donations GIVIT receives goes toward purchasing, from local businesses where possible, crucial items for bushfire-affected households. Whether it be five or 200 dollars, every donation helps give Christmas cheer to a devastated community,” Mr Barrett said. Those who want to help bushfire-affected families and communities are encouraged to donate cash or items via the GIVIT website.
