Brisbane Gin has taken out Gold in the Consumer Tasting SIP Awards and has also earned the Innovation Award for the gin category at the 2020 International Spirits Competition.
With 984 entries into this year’s SIP Awards, judged by lovers and consumers of all things gin, the competition celebrates the industry’s finest tasting spirits with Brisbane Gin coming out on top.
The Gold Medal was awarded in a double-blind tasting, where judges deemed Brisbane Gin flavours innovative and groundbreaking due to its exciting and unique taste and design.
The awards have crowned Brisbane Gin as one of the finest crafts only nine months after the company launched onto the gin scene with hints of local finger lime, kaffir lime and fresh ginger capturing the essence of Brisbane city. Brisbane Gin producer, Australian distilling Co’s Michael Hickinbotham, says the recognition shows that Brisbane’s distilling industry is one to watch.
“It took over 12 months, and 40 recipe variations before our Master Distiller, Graham Jones, and I settled on the Queensland botanicals and citrus flavours for our handcrafted small-batch gin. Of course, we hoped we got it right; but the true test is in consumer sentiment. Launching last November in iconic Brisbane bars, hotels and bottle shops showed us we were onto something, and our continued growth has further proven our place in the Brisbane craft gin scene,” he said.
“These international awards now firmly put Brisbane on the worldwide stage, with the flavours in Brisbane Gin reflecting the city and the people that make it what it is. With bright and bold notes thanks to the Kaffir lime and finger lime, and warm and welcoming hints off fresh ginger, Brisbane will be on everyone’s lips,” Michael said.
