Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) has issued a call out for 18 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander models to showcase up to 100 designs featured across 15 fashion and wearable art collections comprising the organisation’s 10-year anniversary performance, Woven.
CIAF returns for its 14th season between 13 and 16 July 2023, during which the annual Fashion Performance will be a program highlight celebrating 10 years with an anniversary presentation of Queensland’s most talented Indigenous fashion designers, artists, and creatives. With the fashion designer lineup announced earlier, the CIAF fashion team is set to deliver another powerful and potent milestone performance just four months from now. Seasoned textile and fashion designer and second-time Fashion Performance Curator, Lynelle Flinders said deciding this year’s cohort of models will be very competitive but promises diversity not just in culture, gender, and size but experience as well.
“It is important that we represent Queensland’s distinct Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures while including a number of experienced performers that will lead the way and mentor first timers into what is destined to be another truly exciting and special anniversary performance,” Ms Flinders said.
According to Ms Flinders, CIAF provides a wonderful opportunity to join hands with the best and brightest Indigenous designers and artists to tell an engaging and meaningful story and be part of history in the making. CIAF’s three ticketed fashion performances will be enjoyed by festivalgoers in the atmospheric round of Tank 3, Tanks Arts Centre on Thursday 13 July and Friday 14 July 2023.
