Stokehouse Q has announced it will host its From Around Here Dinner, a five course celebration of local produce, paired with wine, and the growers who dedicate their lives to cultivating the state’s rich ingredients, on Thursday 21 June.

Executive Chef Richard Ousby will host the dinner, and has personally visited more than 10 local producers from the Granite Belt, Southern Downs, Sunshine Coast and the Scenic Rim to curate the menu, with all growers featuring in the five course culinary adventure. “As a chef I have always been inspired by Australian produce,” said Richard. “I honestly believe our local produce is some of the very best in the world, and now to be able to take it to this level, it’s inspirational to me. Being able to visit the farms and connect candidly with the families that make and cultivate the food on our plates is a really moving experience.”

Richard says flavour is drive by passion for the craft. “One of the most exciting parts of my job is tasting the new season pears from Jeff McMahon’s farm just out of Stanthorpe, or a beetroot fresh from the ground at Falls Farm in Mapleton. The flavour of a beetroot straight out of the ground is like a lightbulb moment. Growers like these are absolute champions for brilliant food.”

Local produce set to star at the event includes spanner crab from Fraser Isle Spanner Crabs, Mal Smith’s potatoes from Killarney, free range eggs from Jalbirri Googums, and famed Awassi lamb from Grantham, just to name a few. Each producer has their own story and during this event, these stories will be celebrated, both in Chef Ousby’s menu, and as told by the producers themselves. For example, Ian and Margie Douglas of Lime Caviar Company on the Scenic Rim have led the way in the boutique finger lime market, having devoted the past 10 years of their lives to creating the perfect product for market. So much so in fact, that they have recently released pre-packaged, ready to serve Lime Caviar pearls, an innovative addition to the Finger Lime industry.

The From Around Dinner will take place on Thursday 21 June, with Stokehouse Q closing to the public for the event.
