Queensland’s premier annual fashion festival returns with five days of style, sophistication and socialising from Sunday 25 August. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival 2019 will feature 37 local designers including 26 emerging designers, four fashion colleges, 14 national designers and six international brands. Now in its 13 year, MBFF 2019 will be staged at the iconic riverside Howard Smith Wharves where guests can sip stunning cocktails on the waterfront at The Fashion Bar, hosted by Mr Percival’s. Between admiring the Spring/Summer 19 trends and rubbing shoulders with fashion luminaries, MBFF attendees can immerse themselves in Brisbane’s fashion scene.

The program begins on Sunday afternoon with the Sunset Launch Party, hosted by new Festival Gold Partner The Fantauzzo. An evening of canapés, beverages and a special first glimpse of the runway collections will follow with guests invited to don spring appropriate white attire. On Monday, Lunch with the Girls will feature the top 40 new season fashions on show accompanied by the latest designs from McKinney’s Jewellers, celebrating their 135th anniversary. Ticket holders will indulge in a two-course luncheon at Brisbane City Hall in the company of media celebrities Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Georgina Lewis from Network 10, and 97.3FM’s Bianca Dye, who will discuss all things style, sharing their fashion hits and misses while guests enjoy a salon style show. The official runway launches on the same day, treating attendees to the new season collections from Queens Plaza’s high end brands. The curated collection includes labels and retailers Alice McCall, Viktoria & Woods, Aje, Scanlan Theodore, sass & bide, David Jones, Mimco and Paspaley.

The much anticipated Mercedes-Benz Group Show 1 will grace the runway on Tuesday, featuring covetable collections from Aje, Ginger & Smart, Bianca Spender, Alice McCall and others. Local and emerging designers will be celebrated in the Group Show on Wednesday. MBFF Director Lindsay Bennett makes special mention of MeQ Designs and kimbralou. “Both these labels are approaching fashion from two very different angles, but with the ultimate goal of making fashion more accessible, diverse and inclusive,” he said. Wednesday’s runway will also feature student designs by Kelvin Grove State College KG Bold, TAFE Queensland’s own Ileana the Label and Cassidy the Label, QUT Fashion and Billy Blue College of Design. MBFF shines a light on up and coming designers throughout Wednesday’s runway event. “It is estimated that as a direct result of the 2018 festival, the economic impact and benefits to local designers and retailers is in excess of $2 million. It’s important that we all support the local industry and there is no better way to do this than by purchasing garments from our hard working and talented local designers – both emerging and established,” Bennett said. Mercedes-Benz Group Show 2 will see off the program on Thursday, showcasing collections including Naudic, Sacha Drake, Ella Moda, Boom Shankar, Urbbana and Aqua Blu.
