Perfect for a catch-up with friends or family, the Bao and Bowls menu at The Balfour Kitchen is proving to be popular with locals, hospitality staff and those who love a touch of Asian informality … and, best of all, it’s BYO wine night!
Taste the cloud-like doughy deliciousness and Asian punchy flavours of these build-your-own bao, and choose from a couple of our favourite bowls, then finish the night off with our ‘I scream for ice cream’ dessert speciality … all created by the talented team, led by Head Chef Nick Stapleton.
“This informal Monday-night-only menu was inspired by how I love to eat at home, on a summer evening, with a couple of beers, when friends pop in. Also, traditionally, for hospitality staff who mostly call Mondays their weekend, it can be challenging to find restaurants open. Now we have given hospo people Bao & Bowls … and BYO wine!” Stapleton said. “Although our daily menu is mostly modern Vietnamese / Asian with a touch of French influences, our Bao & Bowls menu’s core is modern south east Asian, perfect for spring / summer dining.”
Available Monday nights only from 5:30 to 9:30pm with a menu to tease and tempt, Bao & Bowls is $49 per person which includes Bao + Bowl + Dessert. Build your own bao from pulled pork, tamari mushrooms, fried prawns, pickles, sriracha slaw, 10 spice, hot and sweet sauce and tamarind dressing – all served to the table to share. Bowls are served with rice, twice cooked beef in Aunty 5’s sauce on shaved cabbage, Asian herb salad OR Vietnamese curry of tofu, baby corn, broccolini OR Chef’s special bowl ($8 Supplement).
Options change weekly. Diners can add thrice cooked chats, sriracha mayo ($10), and truffled prawn crackers ($8). To finish there’s ‘I SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM’ – condensed milk and cinnamon icecream with chocolate crunch pearls.
