Sunshine Coast getaway The Country House at Hunchy is in the running for the 2018 Queensland Tourism Awards.

The Country House at Hunchy is an exclusive, serene and secluded bed and breakfast a few minutes drives from the artisan villages of Montville and Maleny with iconic shops, cafes, galleries and restaurants. The spacious modern Queenslander accommodates in luxury and privacy amongst the beautiful rainforest. Owners Karin and Paul Orwin said The Country House at Hunchy started with a dream. “I wanted to own a bed & breakfast perhaps a little more upmarket than those I stayed in during family holidays,” Karin explained. “I wanted to keep the same principles though: a good bed, good company and simple home cooked food done well.”

Karin, who is originally from Yorkshire in England, left suburban Brisbane two years ago with husband Paul to move to the Sunshine Coast, their favourite part of the world. “We are living the dream,” Paul said. “The Sunshine Coast hinterland is full of spectacular views and second-to-none fresh, local produce. What we do does not feel like work.”

Paul and Karin say their favourite part about running their little bed and breakfast is the relationships they form with their visitors. “They arrive tired and exasperated after a Friday evening on the Bruce Highway to looking relaxed on Sunday and reticent to leave,” says Paul. “Guests arrive as visitors but leave as friends who want to come back here again and again.”

The Queensland Tourism Awards showcase outstanding contributions made to the industry by organisations and individuals. Queensland’s tourism industry is continuously growing and is currently worth $25 billion.
