The Coorparoo Square has officially opened The Locals Lounge, space for locals to sit, chat, read and chill out, combining a community library, a kids corner, a phone charging station, and separate chill-out zones.
For book lovers, the community library houses a range of fiction and non-fiction books for both adults and children and is based around the concept of “swap and go” where you are invited to sit and read or take the book home with you to enjoy. You then return the book when you are done to give others a chance to read it or, if the book is simply too good to give back, simply replace the book for another great read.
The Little Locals zone offers the perfect spot for children to play and read while parents grab a coffee, meet and chat, keeping the little ones entertained. Books for the space have been sourced from The Asthma Foundation in Coorparoo, and through the “swap and go” process, the collection promises to offer something for everyone.
The Locals Lounge is open every day from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm and on the first Sunday of every month, The Market Folk host a community market. Dendy Cinema and other local retailers have a calendar of events for school holidays and the square plan to introduce regular activities such as children’s storytime and school holiday activities.
Local businesses have also expressed interest in the space, with the opportunity for community craft workshops, as well as wellness and educational sessions in the near future. Senior Property Manager of Fraser Property Australia, Melinda Boyle said “we want everyone to feel as they have a sense of ownership of this space and is available to them to use when needed.”
