National architecture firm Architectus has something very special planned for the reinvigoration of the Valley Metro precinct. The concept features an ambitious mixed-use design that seamlessly blends commercial, residential and retail spaces with the existing rail infrastructure. The development’s contemporary, modern design is not just architecturally stunning, it also seeks to combine aesthetics with functionality and a focus on wellbeing and sustainability, aiming for a 5-star green-rating.

Accordingly, the project’s first stage – a 23-storey commercial tower – melds green and communal spaces, such as stepped gardens and a rooftop communal area, with more formal and functional areas including two floors of retail space and car parking across a 7 level podium.

The company, which is also behind prominent projects such as Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, and the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, aims to create a space that promotes the wellbeing of the local workforce, by providing access to a multitude of breakout spaces. These allow local employees to access light and fresh air, encouraging active engagement with this breathable building environment.

Whilst the state-of-the-art design and structure of the precinct is decidedly modern, the architects are also aware of the necessity to take into account the valley’s historical sites and the pace of the surrounding built environment. Hence, the development seeks to acknowledge Fortitude Valley’s vibrant cultural role and heritage, by actively and effortlessly encouraging residents and visitors to the area to interact with the space – elevating neighbouring precincts, whilst staying true to the Valley’s personality.
