The Wineslinger awards have announced their Top 50 Venues for 2020, allowing us all to dive right into the finest wines in Australia. Wineslinger established in 2018 by Young Gun of Wine Founder Rory Kent is an annual award to encourage people to travel across Australia to find the country’s most exquisite wines and celebrate the creativity and excellence of the craft. 

The Top 50 has been voted by nonetheless winemakers, hospitality tastemakers, journalists and of course sommeliers to ensure the list is well defined. With new entries filling the top 50 spots amongst some of the fan favourites of the previous years this shows what a dynamic industry it is. The Top 50 includes 14 venues from New South Wales, 12 from Victoria, eight from Western Australia, five each from South Australia, Tasmania and Queensland, and one from ACT.

The diverse lot includes a French-influenced Vietnamese cuisine, 500 km south of Perth, a favourite that pairs Chinese regional snacks with unicorn bottles in Brisbane and a pasta-focused diner by lo-fi wine pioneers in Sydney’s CBD providing diverse venues for all to enjoy. With voting now open to the public for the People’s Choice Award, this year is a little different as Wineslinger is in support of Tip Jar giving a $1 donation to the hospitality industry for every public vote.

Tip Jar is a hospitality relief fund that raises and directs money to those in the industry that need it most, and as the hospitality has been doing it extremely tough this year it’s time to give back, so get voting! “It’s time to celebrate those places and hospitality professionals that we love. We’re determined to raise funds through Tip Jar that will feed, house, employ, upskill and support the food and beverage industry,” says Kent.

Along with every vote, individuals also have the choice to add to the donation if they’re feeling generous. Voting is now live here and closes on Monday 19 October at 12:00 pm. Everyone who votes in the ‘People’s Choice’ can go into the draw to win a host of fantastic prizes including a Liebherr wine cabinet, a year’s supply of wine from Young Gun of Wine, and curated red and white wine packs from Henschke.

The best of the biz in Queensland include Cru Bar + Cellar and Snack Man in Fortitude Valley, La Lune Wine Co in South Brisbane, La Lupa at West End and Maeve Wine Bar in South Brisbane.
