“What always compels me about Queensland Symphony Orchestra is the sheer physicality of the players: countless bows arcing, the honeyed cry of French horns and the answering staccato of flutes. Besides a technical prowess, it highlights a passion for the music — and for sharing it.” The West End Magazine, February 2018
Queensland Symphony Orchestra presents a diverse program for winter, performing three spectacular concerts at QPAC Concert Hall. On Saturday 12 May, rising star Chad Hoopes performs Barber’s brilliant Violin Concerto, and the Orchestra brings to life Rachmaninov’s vibrant Symphonic Dances. On Saturday 9 June, Mystical & Majestic will charm audiences with a spine-tingling performance of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No.2, a true heart racer spiked with folksy tunes and lightning piano rushes.
For dramatic punch, it is hard to beat Zarathustra’s thrilling, brass-fuelled Sunrise Fanfare, made famous by Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. On Saturday July 14, Russian Marvels showcases music by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Rachmaninov, in what will be a dramatic and exciting evening. At Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Orchestra will perform two blockbuster movies — Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on Saturday 19 May, and Star Wars: A New Hope on Saturday 7 July. Experience the magic of these iconic films while the Orchestra performs John Williams’ spellbinding scores live.
