Brisbane local Green Beacon Brewing Co. has been awarded the Champion Medium Australian Brewery trophy at the world’s largest annual beer competition, the Australian International Beer Awards held in Melbourne.

Having picked up Champion Small Australian Brewery in 2017, Green Beacon recently brewed a collaboration beer with fellow 2017 champions Stone & Wood, Balter, and Pact, that was served with the first course of the evening. The tart passionfruit India Pale Ale was served to 900 industry guests in attendance. Green Beacon ended the night with a total of 12 medals including gold for Half Mast, Saison Du Belise, Brett Barrel Aged Siren Song and 7 Bells Passionfruit Gose.

A lot has changed at Green Beacon since the awards in 2017. With the commissioning of a new facility operating under the guidance of Johann Van der Walt, the brewery’s annual production now sits at around one million litres, with room to grow. This has allowed the Teneriffe Brewpub team, lead by Josh Warren, to produce a number of seasonal, special and collaborative releases. Green Beacon has also hired a national sales team headed by Harrison Scarf, who is in negotiations with First Choice for a national roll out of our Core Range. “With so much competition out there, these awards verify our commitment to what we do and helps us make more good beer available to more people around the country,” Scarf said.

Green Beacon General Manager Chris Borbas said it was great to see that quality had not been compromised by such a large increase in production. “Having increased production by 400 per cent in the last 12 months with the introduction of a second facility here in Brisbane, this award is testament to the dedication the entire Beacon team show, day in, day out. We couldn’t be happier with the result,” Borbas said.
