The 2020 International Junior Sommeliers Competition, hosted by La Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Australia, is now open for entries.

In 2007, the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs inaugurated the annual International Jeunes Sommeliers Competition to offer young sommeliers the opportunity to present their skills and “savoir faire” under highly competitive, intense and gruelling testing conditions. For the 2020 Competition onwards, the new International Junior Sommeliers Competition has the goal of developing the expertise of young wine and spirit professionals with a special emphasis placed on service skills.

The focus of the relaunched Competition is young people who are still developing their sommelier skills (eg. at the level of Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers) and benefits participants in an international competition from an educational perspective to broaden their experience. Key dates include: 20 April — national regional exams; 15 June — National Finals in Sydney at the InterContinental Sydney, Double Bay; and 1 to 5 September — International Finals at Lyon, France.

The Junior Sommeliers Competition is open to any individual who is sponsored by an active Professional member of la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, and  has an interest in the wine and crafted beverage industry. They must file an application with the designated person in the participating country, be at least 21 years old and not be older than 27 on the advertised start date of the International Final. For 2020, the prize for the Australian National Winner will be $3000. The National winner will also receive an all expenses paid trip to Lyon for the International Finals. The International Winner will receive a prize of 2,500€ with the Runner-up and Third Place receiving 1500€ and 500€ respectively.
